Some advice for trees in winter:

Protect tropical trees with burlap. Either wrap it around the tree or around a simple frame.
Check existing stakes and wires. They should have some give to them and not be too tight where they are tied. If there is a problem, redo the wiring.
Prune dormant trees. Do not prune any plant that is either flowering now or budding and about to flower.
Look for splits in a tree trunk or patches of mushrooms growing on a tree trunk. These could be a sign a tree needs to be removed.
